Villa St. Calyx

12 guests3 bedrooms6 beds3.5 baths

A dual-pavilion villa built around its own pool, down a quiet lane in the heart of Berawa.

Most villas put everything under one roof. St. Calyx does something better.

The house is split into two pavilions facing each other across the pool — the master on one side with its own gardens, the guest rooms and living pavilion on the other. The water sits between them. You cross open air to move from bed to breakfast, which sounds like an inconvenience and turns out to be the whole pleasure of the place.

It is the largest villa in the collection: three king ensuites and room for twelve. And it sits down a quiet gang in Berawa, which means birdsong at the gate and Finns Beach Club under ten minutes away.

The Space

The living pavilion opens straight onto the pool — an open-plan room with high ceilings and natural textures, in the cream, teak and sage that runs through every Nusa villa. There is a 55-inch smart TV with Netflix, indoor dining for six, a guest washroom, and air conditioning throughout with a ceiling fan in the lounge for the hours you would rather have the doors open.

Two sofa beds in the lounge add flexible sleeping for four more.

The kitchen is set up for a group properly cooking rather than gesturing at it: gas stove, mini-oven, microwave, full fridge-freezer, Nespresso machine, kettle, filtered water, and cookware for real meals. Dining indoors and out.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

The master suite occupies its own pavilion — a king bed, a walk-in dressing area, and an ensuite with a stone bathtub, twin vanities and a walk-in shower. Doors open directly to the pool and gardens. It is the room guests fight over.

Bedrooms Two and Three sit in the guest pavilion, one with a king bed, the other with two queen beds. Each bedroom with its own ensuite, and sliding doors onto the pool.

All three are dressed in hotel-quality linens with blackout curtains and air conditioning. Three couples each have complete privacy; add the lounge sofa beds and it works as easily for a family.

The Garden & Pool

The pool is the centre of the house, with sun loungers and a hand-fringed Balinese parasol. Landscaped tropical gardens and stone pathways run between the pavilions, and there is outdoor seating for long lunches and sunset drinks.

Secure gated parking on the premises for a car or several scooters.

A note we make on every villa. Ours are designed to live open to the Balinese tropics, and the tropics live back — geckos on the walls, which are considered good fortune here, butterflies through the garden, the occasional ant in the humid months. It is true of every villa and hotel on the island. We treat the villa professionally every four weeks, more often than most, and the bedrooms close and seal completely for a cool night's sleep.

The Neighbourhood

Berawa is where Canggu is at its most convincing — rice fields and quiet residential lanes running directly into some of the best cafés, beach clubs and studios in Bali. St. Calyx sits down one of those lanes, which buys you the rare combination: stillness at the gate, everything within minutes.

Berawa Beach and Finns are under ten minutes by scooter. Atlas Beach Club and The Lawn about the same. Echo Beach and Batu Bolong around ten. Berawa's cafés, bakeries and boutiques are a few minutes in any direction, with supermarkets and pharmacies a short ride.

Gyms, yoga and pilates studios are minutes away, as are the padel courts. Tanah Lot is a short run for sunset, Seminyak fifteen to twenty minutes down the coast, and the airport forty minutes to an hour depending on traffic.

All times are approximate and by scooter — Bali's traffic shifts through the day.

Getting Around

Berawa rewards two wheels — cafés, beach and studios are all a few minutes away. Our own Nusa Havens fleet can be delivered to the gate before you arrive, including licence-free electric vehicles that need no motorcycle permit.

Grab and Gojek run reliably here, and a private driver or chauffeured car can be arranged for airport transfers, temple trips or a day further afield.

A note on the lane. Like many of Berawa's most peaceful addresses, St. Calyx sits down a quiet gang, so the final approach is narrow — best suited to scooters and standard cars. For larger vehicles or airport transfers, our team will advise the smoothest drop-off point and your driver will know exactly where to meet you.

Drivers, chefs and island days can be arranged through our experiences.

Good to Know

Check-in from 4:00 PM, check-out by 11:00 AM. Self check-in available, with full details sent before arrival. A valid passport is required for guests aged 18 and over — standard for villa stays in Bali.

Your Villa Hostess welcomes every guest personally. For arrivals after 9:00 PM a small late-welcome fee applies, so she can stay and greet you properly however late your journey.

A particular note on the pool. The pavilions sit either side of it, so guests cross open poolside to move between them. The pool is unfenced, directly accessible from the living areas and bedrooms, and not heated. Children must be supervised at all times, particularly under-12s and non-swimmers. We ask that the entrance gates are kept secured. A cot and high chair are available on request with notice.

Private leisure stays only — no events or parties, in respect of our neighbours. Smoking in the garden and pool area only. No security deposit is required; we simply ask that you treat the villa with the care we put into preparing it.

Bali is developing quickly, and building work happens across the island. We chose this Berawa lane for its peace and protect it as far as we can, but we do not control the land around us. Should nearby noise arise, message your Villa Hostess and we will do what we can. We would rather be open about it than have it come as a surprise.
