Villa Gaudi I

4 guests2 bedrooms2 beds2 baths

Two king ensuites on two separate floors, beside the paddies — a villa built for two couples who want equal footing.

Most two-bedroom villas have a good room and a lesser one. Somebody ends up with the smaller bed, the darker corner, the bathroom without the bath. It is the quiet awkwardness of travelling as two couples.

Gaudi I does away with it. There are two king ensuites, one on each floor, each with its own outlook and its own bathroom — and no obvious winner. You take a floor, they take a floor, and nobody has to be gracious about it.

The villa is new, low-slung and modern, set at the end of a no-through lane in Tumbuk Bayuh with rice fields on the other side of the pool.

The Space

Around 100 square metres across two floors, plus pool and terrace, with clean architectural lines, high ceilings and a great deal of natural light.

The ground floor is open-plan living and dining that looks straight onto the pool and the green beyond, with comfortable lounge seating and a smart TV. The kitchen is properly equipped for self-catering — stove, microwave, fridge-freezer, kettle, filtered water and real cookware — with a dining area for meals in.

Upstairs is the second bedroom, larger than you would expect, with a work desk, full-length mirror, and big windows onto the paddies.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Bedroom One, ground floor — a king bed with an ensuite walk-in shower, looking out to the pool and the fields.

Bedroom Two, upper floor — a king bed with a writing desk, an ensuite with a bathtub, and the green view through the windows.

Both are dressed in hotel-quality linens, with air conditioning, wardrobe storage and calm, neutral décor. Both close and seal completely, so however open the villa lives by day, the sleeping is cool and quiet.

Sleeps four, in genuine comfort rather than technically.

The Garden & Pool

The pool looks out over the rice fields — no wall, no neighbour, just green. A poolside terrace for morning coffee, an afternoon in the shade, and the hour before dinner when the light goes gold across the paddies.

The lane has no through traffic, which is more valuable in Bali than it sounds. Private parking at the villa.

A note we make on every villa. Ours live open to the Balinese tropics, and the tropics live back — geckos on the walls, which are considered good fortune here, butterflies through the garden, the occasional ant in the humid months. It is true of every villa and hotel on the island. We treat the villa professionally every four weeks, more often than most, and the bedrooms seal completely.

The Neighbourhood

Tumbuk Bayuh sits just north of central Canggu, and it is where the island loosens back into countryside. Open rice fields, quiet lanes, an unhurried residential rhythm — the older, gentler Bali that most visitors assume has gone.

The trade is a good one: stillness at home, and everything you came for a short ride away.

Pererenan and Canggu's cafés, bakeries and restaurants are ten to fifteen minutes by scooter, as are the gyms, yoga studios and co-working spaces. Seseh and Pererenan beaches around fifteen. Batu Bolong and Echo Beach roughly twenty. Tanah Lot is a fifteen-minute run for sunset, and the airport forty-five minutes to an hour depending on traffic.

All times are approximate and by scooter — Bali's traffic shifts through the day.

Getting Around

Two wheels are the way here. Our own Nusa Havens fleet can be delivered to the gate before you arrive, including licence-free electric vehicles that need no motorcycle permit.

Grab and Gojek run reliably across the area, and a private driver or chauffeured car can be arranged for airport transfers, temple trips or a day further afield.

Street parking at the villa for a car, with space alongside for several scooters.

Drivers, chefs and island days can be arranged through our experiences.

Good to Know

Check-in from 4:00 PM, check-out by 11:00 AM. Self check-in available, with full details sent before arrival. A valid passport is required for guests aged 18 and over — standard for villa stays in Bali.

Your Villa Hostess welcomes every guest personally. For arrivals after 9:00 PM a small late-welcome fee applies, so she can stay and greet you properly however late your journey.

The pool and the stairs. The pool is unfenced, directly accessible from the living areas, and not heated. This is also a two-storey villa with internal stairs. Children must be supervised at all times, particularly under-12s and non-swimmers. We ask that the entrance gates are kept closed. A cot and high chair are available on request with notice.

Private leisure stays only — no events or parties, in respect of our neighbours. Smoking in the garden and pool area only. No security deposit is required; we simply ask that you treat the villa with the care we put into preparing it.

Bali is developing quickly, and building work happens across the island. We chose this rice-field setting for its calm and protect it as far as we can, but we do not control the land around us. Should nearby noise arise, message your Villa Hostess and we will do what we can.
