Villa Juma

Step through the planted entrance and the world quietens. Cream walls, warm teak, woven rattan and soft sage — natural, tactile, and beautifully considered.

The living, dining and kitchen spaces are open-air by design, beneath a dramatic hand-laid thatch roof — one of the most beautiful at this end of Bali. Lowerable bamboo blinds give shade and privacy when you want them. The layout is single-level throughout.

The kitchen is fully equipped and open to the air: breakfast bar with stools, full fridge-freezer, gas stove, microwave, kettle, water dispenser and filtered drinking water, with complete crockery, cutlery, glassware and cookware. A long teak dining table for unhurried meals.

Two king ensuite retreats, each its own private haven — and crucially, both close securely behind lockable sliding doors and are fully air-conditioned. However open the villa lives by day, you sleep sealed and cool.

Each room has a king-size bed in soft white linens, a wall-mounted 42-inch smart TV, wardrobe storage and calm natural décor.

The ensuites are the thing. A sculpted stone soaking tub under cover, an open-to-sky rain shower, twin stone basins, and lush tropical planting all around. Bathing here — beneath the stars, or in the morning light — becomes a small daily ritual of its own.

Each room sleeps two: ideal for two couples travelling together, or a family of four.

A private pool framed by frangipani, palms and bougainvillea, with a teak sun deck, two loungers and a hand-fringed Balinese parasol. Soft garden seating that moves to chase the sun or the shade, a covered lounge daybed, and an additional outdoor garden shower.

At golden hour, with the thatch glowing and the pool still, this is Juma at its most beautiful.

A covered carport takes one car plus a scooter, or several scooters.

Living open to the tropics — please read. Juma is a true open-air villa, and its beauty is that there are no walls between you and the garden. That is also the honest trade.

Bali's wildlife is abundant and it comes in: geckos on the walls, considered good fortune here; butterflies through the garden; and ants, mosquitoes or small insects that are simply part of open-air life, more so in the warm, humid months. This is the romance of living without walls, not a fault, and no amount of treatment removes it entirely.

We carry out professional pest control every four weeks, far more often than most. Both bedrooms close fully behind sliding doors and are air-conditioned, so you always have a sealed, cool retreat for sleeping.

If a completely enclosed, insect-free space is essential to you, an open-air villa is not the right fit — and one of our other villas will suit you better. But if you love the idea of living close to the Balinese tropics, Juma is something rare, and most guests come to be fond of the resident geckos.

Padonan is a calm, leafy pocket on the quiet northern fringe of Canggu, where rice fields, village lanes and birdsong replace the bustle. It is the part of Canggu people wish they had found sooner.

A short ride brings you to Canggu and Berawa's beaches, beach clubs, surf breaks and sunset bars, and to the area's cafés, yoga studios and restaurants. Neighbouring Pererenan offers a quieter, more design-led scene of artisan coffee and boutique dining, while the beaches at Seseh and Nyanyi remain wonderfully unspoilt. Tanah Lot — one of Bali's loveliest places to watch the sun go down — is a short drive.

Close enough to dip into Canggu's energy whenever you like; far enough to come home to complete calm.

By scooter — the easiest and most local way to explore. Our own Nusa Havens fleet can be delivered to your gate before check-in, including licence-free electric vehicles that need no motorcycle permit.

By private driver — for airport transfers, day trips or evenings out, your Villa Hostess can arrange a trusted driver at any time. Often the most relaxed way to travel.

Ride-hailing — Grab and Gojek work well here for cars and food delivery.

The airport is roughly under an hour away, traffic depending; a private pick-up can be arranged so a familiar face is waiting when you land. Private covered carport at the villa.

Check-in from 4:00 PM, check-out by 11:00 AM. Self check-in available, with full details sent before arrival. A valid passport is required for guests aged 18 and over — standard for villa stays in Bali.

Your Villa Hostess welcomes every guest personally. For arrivals after 9:00 PM a small late-welcome fee applies, so she can stay and greet you properly however late your journey.

The pool and the open living space. The pool is unfenced, directly accessible from the open-air living areas, and not heated. As an open-plan, open-air villa, the living space is not enclosed. Children must be supervised at all times, particularly under-12s and non-swimmers. We ask that the entrance gates are kept closed. A cot and high chair are available on request with notice.

Private leisure stays only — no events or parties, in respect of our neighbours. Smoking in the garden and pool area only, never in the bedrooms. No security deposit is required; we simply ask that you treat the villa with the care we put into preparing it.

Bali is developing quickly, and building work happens across the island. Being an open-air villa, sound carries more freely here than in an enclosed home, so we mention it honestly. We chose this leafy Padonan pocket for its peace and protect it as far as we can, but we do not control the land around us.
